Traditional Khmer Couple Photoshoot at Angkor Wat

A traditional Khmer photoshoot at Angkor Wat is a beautiful way for couples visiting Siem Reap to create photographs that connect their trip to Cambodia with the setting and culture of Angkor.

For this couple’s photoshoot, both guests wore traditional Cambodian clothing before spending the morning photographing around Angkor Wat. We created a mixture of couple portraits, individual photographs and wider compositions incorporating the temple’s architecture.

This gallery shows what a real traditional Khmer dress photoshoot at Angkor Wat can look like, including the different locations, backgrounds and styles of photographs that can be created during a session.

A traditional Cambodian dress photoshoot for couples

Traditional Khmer clothing works particularly well for couple photography at Angkor Wat. The fabrics, colours and styling complement the stone architecture of the temple, while photographing two people gives us opportunities to create both formal portraits and more natural interactions.

During this session we photographed the couple together as well as individually. This creates a more varied final gallery and gives each person their own portraits in traditional Cambodian clothing.

No photography experience is needed. The photographer provides direction throughout the session, including where to stand, how to position your hands and body, and how to interact naturally as a couple.

Photos around the architecture of Angkor Wat

One of the advantages of an Angkor Wat photoshoot is the variety of photography locations available within a relatively small area.

For this session, we used temple corridors, stone doorways and windows to create portraits where the architecture becomes part of the composition. These areas also provide opportunities for closer photographs where the focus is primarily on the couple and their traditional Khmer outfits.

As we move through the temple, the background changes naturally, allowing us to create a varied collection without constantly travelling between locations.

Couple photos with the Angkor Wat towers

For many visitors, one photograph is especially important: a portrait with the towers of Angkor Wat clearly visible in the background.

We include time for these iconic Angkor Wat views during the session, creating both full-length photographs that show the traditional outfits and closer couple portraits where the temple remains recognisable behind you.

The open areas around Angkor Wat also give us space for walking photographs and less formal poses, adding another style of image to the final collection.

Individual portraits in traditional Khmer clothing

A couple session doesn’t mean every photograph has to include both people.

We also photograph each person individually, giving both guests a selection of traditional Khmer portraits. These can include full-length photographs showing the complete outfit, closer portraits highlighting the styling and jewellery, and environmental photographs incorporating Angkor Wat.

For couples, this combination of individual and shared portraits creates a much more complete record of the experience.
